If You Don't Set Him Off, He's A Real Nice Guy

May 2010 - Crime: Aggravated Assault
New York Mills, New York - Abraham Dickan was a citizen on patrol, who kept an eye on everything going on in the community.  But he was also known for having anger issues and a recent history of depression.

His neighbor described him thus, "If you don't set him off, he's a real nice guy."

Not a comforting description given the fact that Mr. Dickan was a CCW permit holder.

Mr. Dickan had been banned from a local AT&T store because he yelled racial slurs at employees, brandished his firearm at them and threatened their lives.  This behavior lead to his being banned from the store and his permit being revoked.  Instead of seeing his own behavior as being the issue, Mr. Dickan felt that the six employees at the store were the cause of the problem and so decided to seek revenge by going to the store and killing them.

He was able to seriously wound employee Seth Turk in the abdomen before being shot and killed himself by an off-duty police officer from a nearby township, Donald Moore.

September, 2009 Crime: Road Rage

Maumelle, Arkansas - Family Festival promoter and concealed carry permit holder, Norman Millard "Butch" Stone Jr. was driving slowly in the outside lane. This annoyed Kenton Byrd who acted incorrectly by tailgating Butch in an effort to get him to move into the slow lane. Butch waved the other driver around but then, as they did attempt to pass him, he pulled his gun and aimed at them. They quickly pulled into the Wal-Mart parking lot to get away from the situation but was followed by Butch. Butch and both of the passengers in his car got out of their vehicle and moved to Kenton's vehicle, where again Butch pulled his weapon out and pointed it at Kenton. Butch then pushed Kenton into his car and left the scene. When police caught up with Butch he attempted to claim that he pointed his gun at a moving vehicle, followed it into a parking lot and then pulled a gun on them again because he thought his life was in danger because he thought maybe the other guy had a gun. (Ed. note - If you thought your life was in danger, wouldn't you move away from someone, not follow them?)

September, 2009 Crime: Reckless endangerment and discharging a firearm

Tonawanda, New York - Restaurant co-owner and concealed carry permit owner, Michael Parker chose to fire his gun in his restaurant for a reason as yet unknown to the public. Whether it was an accident as he claims or otherwise, as the numerous witnesses claim, the bullet went through a refrigerator, through the exterior wall of the kitchen and across the street. Luckily, no one was injured.
