April, 2010 - Crime: Making threats against the life of a president, felon in possession of a gun

Palm Harbor, Florida - Through some interstate records snafu, even though he has a criminal history including forgery and assault in New York, Mark Ratteni was able to finagle himself a CCW permit in Florida.

Well, instead of showing that he had gone straight and prove that he deserved a second chance, he decided to move from forgery and assault to making threats against the life of the president.

Selah, Washington - CCW permit holder, Charles Alan Wilson, angered by the passage of the health care reform bill, called the office of U.S. Senator Patty Murray several time between March 22 and April 4 and threatened her life.

Authorities were able to track his calls and he will be in court in Yakima today.

An interesting addition to the blog

While this is slightly outside the purveyance of this blog, I felt it should be mentioned.

In Tennesse, Representative Steve Cohen had a town meeting to discuss health care reform. Reports are coming in that individuals with concealed carry permits attempted to bring their firearms into the meeting.

Now I ask you, who did these men fear were a threat to their physical lives in that meeting?

While the piece assumes that these people were "teabaggers", there's nothing in the piece that solidifies that assumption into fact. I'll look into getting more info into these individuals' identities and agendas.

Needless to say, attempting to promote your idealogy with the use of a firearm is called domestic terrorism and a civil rights violation. That's not what the permit is for.

Now once again, as I said in my very first post, this isn't about lambasting those individuals who utilize firearms legally and responsibly. This is about refuting the myth that the NRA espouses that all the folks who get CCW's are law abiding citizens and that there's no need for regulation. If we are going to have a reasonable, rational discussion, we have to have the facts on the table and the myths dispelled.

I was able to verify through that great reporter, Yonat Shimron, that Daniel Boyd, the man arrested for potential domestic terrorism had a current concealed carry weapons permit until Wednesday of this last week.
