The theme today is kids Update - July 27, 2009

This just in: I was sent this by a reader, Nick, and had to contact the reporter to get verification. Thanks to Josh Boatwright at the Asheville Citizen-Times for the assist.

July 2009 - Crime: Attempted first degree murder

Charles Alexander Diez, a firefighter and CCW permit holder since 2007, got out of his car and stopped Alan Ray Simons and his wife to complain because he didn't agree with the idea of people riding bicycles with children on back. When Simons attempted to walk away from him, Diez attempted to shoot him in the back of the head. Luckily, while the bullet went through the helmet, it missed Simon's head. Diez fled the scene but witnesses took down his number. Police found him at home. Ironically, he was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
